ECRC working with LBE Adult Learning
The Resource Centre is setting up and hosting a virtual learning environment for Ealing's Adult Learning Provision. This will enable tutors and pupils to organise and share learning material.

Volunteer's Week

Volunteers’ week runs from 1-7 June. Most of the organisations based at the Resource Centre rely heavily on the skill and commitment of volunteer staff.

London Premises Project
The Premises Fact Finder is a new resource for Community and Voluntary sector organisations in London. It brings all the key questions that may be asked about finding, occupying, managing or maintaining buildings in one place, and gives information and signposting to organisations specialising in help and advice on premises issues and for useful publications and websites.

EBCC Funding for I.T Support
The Ealing & Brentford Consolidated Charity are funding the part-time I.T and Information Worker at the Resource Centre for Support and Training of Community Users in the Ealing Area.

Improvements to accessibility and efficiency
Thanks to a Capacity Builders Capital Grant, the Resourcce Centre has been able to make a number of improvements:
  • automatic opening of an internal door to allow easier access for people with disabilities
  • Changing of counselling/interview room doors to make rooms more user-friendly
  • Installation of sink in meeting break-out area to allow us to use waashable rather than disposable cups
  • purchase of a defibrillator for medical emergencies
Further improvements will follow.

Candidates' Visit
On 13th April, Ealing Central and Acton Conservative Candidate Angie Bray and on 23rd April, Labour Candidate Bassam Mahfouz visited the Resource Centre and talked with Voluntary Sector Staff and Volunteers about the work they do in the Community. During the election Campaign, the Centre Welcomes any interest from Parties and Candidates.

Development work with A2Dominion
The Resource Centre is working with A2Dominion and Ealing CVS to help with development work on Dean Gardens and Sherwood Close. This will help engage with residents' needs and opinions.

Funding from Wates Foundation
The Wates Foundation has agreed to help fund the Resource Centre for 2 years from 2010 to 2012. This will enable the work of the Centre to continue and expand.

Extra Charitable Objects

An extraordinary general meeting of Ealing Community Resource Centre agreed to add to our official charitable objects, to reflect the work that we do in the community in Ealing. These have been accepted by the Charity Commission.The Charitable objects now include:

“to develop the capacity and skills of the members of the socially and economically disadvantaged communities in the area of the London Borough of Ealing in such a way that they are better able to identify, and help meet, their needs and to participate more fully in society.”

ECRC is part of the BASIS Premises Consortium.

Capacity builders Capital Grant
The Resource Centre has just received £20,000 capital grant to improve our facilities from Capacity builders.
This will pay for, among other things:
  • Extensions to interview rooms
  • Automatic doors for disabled access
  • Improved induction loops in meeting room
  • More Community Equipment
  • Defibrillator for medical emergencies

The Resource Centre has signed up to the 10:10 campaign to save 10% of our energy in 2010.

Mind EH moves into Resource Centre
Fron the beginning of the year, two staff from the Mind Action Centre have taken up desks at the Resource Centre.

Christmas Holidays
The Resource Centre will be closed for Christmas from midday on Thursday 23rd December. We reopen in the new year on Monday 4th January.

On-line room availability

The Resource Centre is now piloting an on-line room-booking system (see mrbs.ecrc.org.uk). Currently, everyone can see the availability of rooms in the Centre, and resident groups are learning to use it to request room reservations. Once this is operational, the facility can be extended to regular external customers. The system was developed from the open source MRBS software by volunteer Surat Kaler.

Artworks installed

Our small meeting room is now brightened up by two modern artworks by local artist Joe Smith. Joe visited the Centre before designing appropriate images.

OECD visit

The Organisation of Economic Co-operation and Development made a visit to the Resource Centre on 12 June 2009 as part of a conference on the use of digital technology. They were able to see the benefits that a Centre like this brings to small voluntary groups. The DC10+ Digital Challenge project demonstrated live video link-up to Sunderland, where this technology is being used to reach more isolated communities.

ECRC is now a ukonline Centre

The Resource Centre is one of a national network of "ukonline" centres, where people who do not have access to the Internet at home can get a chance to access computers with assistance.
