RCT is a Diaspora-led non-governmental organisation, based in the UK, helping children, young people and their families who live in poverty in Asia to improve their lives.

RCT’s mission is ‘to work with local partners to bring about sustained change to the lives of Asia’s street and working children’.

RCT aims to do this by:

  • Enabling street and working children to access, and remain engaged in, formal and non formal education

  • Providing holistic support to meet the nutritional, health and emotional needs of children and their families

  • Developing the skills and capacity of families to enable them to have a sustainable income

  • Carrying out advocacy work at a local, national and international level on issues that affect street and working children in Asia

RCT is committed to:

  • Authenticity: work with local partners who share our vision to develop innovative and sustainable programmes

  • Accountability: transparency to our beneficiaries and funders

  • Advocacy:to help children, young people and their families articulate their needs and have their voices heard

  • Action:to deliver needs-based programmes that make a difference to people’s lives

Current activities:

Under the Zindagi program in India, Rachael's Children's Trust is currently carrying out the following projects:

gyan

Gyan is the Hindi word for study. This program helps facilitate the continuation of primary and secondary education to the brightest students from our pre-school project in Dharavi slum. A donation of £15 per month enables us to ‘Send a child to school'. It will supply the child with the required school fees, school supplies and uniforms.

balwadi

Balwadi is our pre-school non-formal education in the city of Mumbai. We currently have around 1800 children in numerous locations. It provides the street children with a bridge program that enables them to transition into mainstream government primary school provisions. It also facilitates children with both physical and learning disabilities.

samaaj

Samaaj means community. In this program we aim to have ‘children’s centres' that will target the street and working child and school drop outs with skills and job placement support that would enable them to pursue meaningful employment at the government authorized age of 14 years.

devakana

Devakana means ‘medical dispensary'. This program which is currently funded by Virgin Atlantic will provide our 1800 children in the balwadis with mobile medical and dental screening. It will also include the provision of the required drugs/vitamins that are prescribed by the clinicians.
